Over 218,000 historical setups, right on your charts

WickedDesk automatically detects historical setups like base pivots, high tight flags and episodic pivots and draws them onto the chart with base zone, entry anchor and stop rule. Here is how it works and how to switch it on.

I brought the AI into the chart. WickedDesk now scans a stock's entire price history for the setups that momentum trading literature has described for decades, and draws every find directly onto the chart: with base zone, entry anchor, stop rule and the actual path that followed. It is built on a daily price archive reaching back to 1962: across just over 6,000 stocks, the engine has found more than 218,000 historical setups.

Chart with automatically drawn patterns

Which patterns are detected

The engine knows five setup families from the Qullamaggie playbook and related momentum approaches:

  • Base pivot: a multi-week consolidation after an advance, with the high of the base as the pivot.
  • Darvas box: a tight box of high and low that price leaves to the upside.
  • High tight flag: a short, shallow flag after a very strong move.
  • Green line breakout: the breakout above a historical all-time-high plateau.
  • Episodic pivot: a gap of at least ten percent on at least three times average volume, usually after earnings or news.

For every event the chart shows how the rule sat at the time: where the entry anchor was, where the stop rule sat, and how price developed over the following twenty trading days. This is a look back at historical data, not a recommendation and not a signal.

No peeking into the future

The most important part is under the hood. Every event is computed only from the data that was available up to that day. On the day of the breakout the engine does not know what happens next. Only afterwards does it measure what became of the setup: after five, twenty and sixty days, together with the best and worst point along the way and whether the stop rule was breached.

On top of that, every event runs through a rule audit. Events with inconsistent anchors, data gaps or implausible stop distances are discarded or flagged. The chart only shows what passed the audit.

One switch, all devices

You turn the patterns on and off with the AI patterns button in the top bar, on desktop and on your phone. The setting is tied to your account and follows you across devices.

The overlays are locked drawings. They sit next to your own lines and boxes, never touch them, and disappear again with a single click.

Where this is going

All detected events feed a growing archive. Per setup family it becomes possible to study how such constellations have typically played out historically, as a median with a range instead of a single anecdote. That is what I am working on next, along with a similarity search that shows you the historical twins of a current constellation.

As always: this is tooling and hindsight, not investment advice. What you make of it remains your craft.
